This Valerian is native to Spain and North Africa but has now naturalised in Italy, Greece and Australia. It can grow to an height of 50cms, but is often much smaller when found growing in the mountains. It likes wasteland and verges and flowers from March to June.

This lovely Scabious varies in colour from pink to mauve, and this one really was this bright. They grow from 30~80cms tall on a single stem and flower in the mountains from May to August. They can be found in flower all year near to the coast. It is native to southern Europe, north Africa and western Asia. It has now naturalised on many continents.

This thistle is native to Eurasia and North Africa but is now found worldwide. It is a herbaceous biennial and dies after seeding. The seeds are a great source of winter food for the European Goldfinch. It was used in the textile industry and useful for raising the nap on fabrics. It grows from 50cms to 2m tall and flowers (pale purple to white) from May to September.
