This plant is unusual because the flower buds never open. They remain closed and are covered in many hairs. It can grow from 30-50cms tall and flowers from February to May. I hope that I have identified it correctly.

This lovely plant is native of the Iberian Peninsula and Menorca and flowers from February to May. It grows from 20-50cms tall and is found on verges and among pine forests, preferring sandy soil. The leaves are a greenish-blue which is not obvious in this photograph.

This delicate little plant is abundant in certain areas of southern Spain. I had been searching for it for years to improve on my previous photos. These are still not brilliant but good enough. It is native to Africa and SW Europe and grows from 15-30cms tall with very delicate stems and blue/green leaves.

This common plant is native to Europe, Asia and North Africa, and has now naturalised in North America and Australia. It grows fro 10~40cms tall and flowers from June to November. The leaves are oval and hairy. The plant is poisonous as are several common weeds.

I found a colony of pink Echiums among the blues and purples. It grows from 30~60cms tall and flowers from February to July. It is native to southern Europe, north Africa and SW Asia.It is highly toxic to grazing livestock, but contains nutrients that are used in cosmetic and skin care products.

This beautiful blue, bristly plant is native to Europe and western Asia. It flowers from April to July and can grow 30~80cms tall.

This plant flowers from March to June and can be found in many countries in Europe, and has naturalised worldwide. It grows from 10~ 40cms tall. It is now cultivated in some countries for it's Seed Oil.

This is a white form of the blue bugloss and flowers from February to July. It is very common in Europe, including southern UK. It grows from 25-50cms.

This plant is native to the Mediterranean at anywhere between 200-1.700 metres. It can grow from 15-60cms and supposedly flowers from April to June, but this photograph was taken in late February in central Andalucia.

Flowering  from May to July this tall plant is 2m or more in height. It is native to the southern Iberian peninsula and north Africa and is commonly found on verges and roadsides, hence the seeds have travelled to parts of northern Spain too. It is unmistakable by it's size.

This biennial plant was native to the Mediterranean basin, but has now found its way to several other countries, including south America. It can grow up to 60cms tall and flowers from March to July. It spreads by seeds. The flowers range in colour on the same plant, from blue to pink.

This lovely little flower blooms from March to June and is native to SW Europe and Africa. It grows to an height of 30~40cms and 15cm wide. I really must get a better photograph of it. It grows in dry open areas in full sun.

This annual herb flowers from February to June and can grow to an height of 80cms tall. It is native to the Mediterranean and is cultivated for its seed oil. All of the plant is edible and can be used as a vegetable or dried herb.

The flowers fade to pink as they age.It is highly toxic to grazing livestock, but is a wonderful sight to see. It grows from 20~60cms tall and is a native of SW Europe, north Africa and SW Asia. It has now been introduced to other continents.
