  1. We are just back yesterday from the Alpujarras and the flowers were wonderful! Now I want to sort out as many of our photos as I can. Searched very hard for a good flora of the area, but not very successful- any ideas??

  2. Hello Martin,
When I first came here I used a book called "Wild Flowers of the Mediterranean" by David Burnie. ISBN 0-7513-2761-1 It's an excellent book. If Amazon doesn't have it then Waterstone's will. I also use lots of Spanish websites. If you type in "Flores silvestres de España" lots of them should come up which will help enormously.
    Best wishes, Brenda

  3. Dear Brenda,
Thanks a lot. That is most helpful and I have ordered a copy. I went with a mountain flowers book, but had not noticed it stopped at the Pyrenees! While we were in the Alpujarras we three times saw a species of broomrape, the parasitic flowering plant (Orobanchaceae). Any ideas which species or brromrape are native to your area??

    1. The Orobanchaceae are very common here. To id them it is often easier to id what plants they are parasitic on! There are many species, O. crenata, O. amethystea, O.ramosa etc etc.
      Best wishes,
      Brenda

  4. Thanks- yes, we saw some really rather wonderful specimens. Have to check my photos to see what plants are around them. You are obviously having a good time as new photos are going up every day!
    Best Wishes,
    Martin
